David Embry's artistic interests cover a wide range of subjects and
materials, including accomplished oil and acrylic landscapes and
sensitive watercolours. He has illustrated many books and publications
and has a free and beautiful style of drawing in pen. Commissions also
include houses, landscapes and people, and pictures concerned with
conservation.
His work has been widely exhibited at home and abroad including Canada and the USA. He has won a number of painting competitions including the “Kent Artist of the year” twice, a Rowney drawing prize and the “Kent People and Places” competition.
David owes much to the influence of John Ward CBE, R.A., who often invited him to his studio to work and study. John said “David's painting and drawing hasn't faded with the many years I have known him... all his pictures are 'full' pictures... no hoping for an effect easily achieved... Each picture is a real effort, to be looked at and discovered over and over again.”
David runs residential painting courses at Dedham Hall in “Constable
