Painting is a second career for French born Dominique, who studied Law in Paris, moved to the UK and worked in Information Services for over twenty years.
Having retired early, she now feels fully committed to her art, which has evolved progressively in the last few years from polished figurative landscapes in pastel and acrylic, to more atmospheric pieces. Colour and texture play an essential part in the painting of imagined landscapes or places visited.
Her love of texture stems from her interest in textiles that she has practised ever since her grand-mothers taught her how to knit and crochet. Over the past 8 years she has made wearable accessories in crochet, knitting and rag rug wall hangings for exhibitions and galleries. More recently, she has concentrated her efforts on learning the Nuno felting technique, which she applies to creating silk scarves, using Merino wool fibres.
Being a self-taught artist, Dominique has found the importance of networking with other artists. She still belongs to various local art groups and works on the committee for the South East Open Studios.
